Programme of Events

Combe Down is a village on the outskirts of Bath.

We aim to –

  • foster an interest in Combe Down’s past
  • record and interpret its history and keep an archive of all heritage information
  • make the heritage accessible to residents and visitors and to communicate its work widely
  • involve young people and support and encourage all sources of education

Our main activities are research and meetings which are open to non-members. These consist of illustrated talks, mostly by visiting speakers, on topics related to our work and usually take place every second month. ‘Heritage Trails’, when several committee members run a guided walk for the public or by arrangement with visiting groups, are held several times a year. Other activities such as exhibitions, workshops and outside visits are held from time to time. A quarterly newsletter is sent to members.

We worked as a Heritage Group for three years before becoming a Society in 2004. Within a year we had over 150 members.

Establishing a Heritage Centre in Combe Down is one of our aims. This is in association with the Stone Mines Community Association and the Stone Mines Stabilisation Project which was set up by the Bath and North East Somerset Council.

We collaborate with other organisations who share our interests.
