26/8/99 - Andy Summerskill, 23.2km from Merthyr
I wish to enter the following flight in the Avon X/C league.
My best UK x/c flight... much more satisfying than 50k+ flights in Piedraheta. With hindsight I should have continued beyond Abergavenny as I think I was in the sea breeze convergence... 1000' above Blorenge NW launch but thought it was great getting this far!
Three thermals in total, all to cloudbase at 2500' ATO. First from launch drifting 1/2 way to Fochriw, then glide to Abertswyg where the next thermal was located... above the golf course... not much drift in this one. Glided to the NE end of the Ebbw Vale Valley where circling in zero's eventually paid off. V slow all the way to 'base but once there air was very bouyant.
Crossed the W end of the Blaenavon ridge and glided to NW launch of the Blorenge for photos of all those gliders laid out with the wind blowing 90° across the hill! Finally flew over to the Blorenge Party landing field.
